An Iconic Vintage from Burgundy’s Most Revered Monopole
The 1999 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole is widely considered one of the most extraordinary expressions of Pinot Noir ever produced. Sourced directly from C&B agent stock and stored professionally at Octavian, this parcel—six bottles in original wooden case (sequentially numbered)—offers the serious collector or fine wine investor an exceptional opportunity to secure an iconic Burgundy.
Tasting Notes: A Wine of Rare Purity and Power
Exceptional Aromatics and Complexity
This vintage is the epitome of a classic La Tâche—layered, vibrant, and hauntingly complex. The nose is profoundly aromatic, brimming with Asian spice box nuances, hoisin, and dried rose petals. It shows vivid notes of redcurrant, pomegranate, and forest floor with time in the glass, underpinned by an ethereal sense of terroir and minerality.
Palate: Seamless Structure and Infinite Length
The palate displays immense depth and texture. Silken tannins provide a velvet-like mouthfeel, yet maintain structure and tension. Flavours of black plum, blood orange, and pure Pinot extract evolve into a finish of extraordinary length and tensile precision. The balance and integration are flawless—a textbook example of Grand Cru Burgundy at its peak.

Winery | The 1999 La Tâche Grand Cru can be a perfect wine. This was very similar to the bottle opened in 2015. The bouquet sends you straight to heaven with so much purity and detail that it is difficult to put into words. Fleeting glimpses of redcurrant, then pomegranate, broom and wilted rose petals, later more earthy scents, autumnal. The palate is perfectly balanced with filigree tannin, an utterly entrancing symmetry and precision second to none. Hints of black plum and blood orange, that mineralité returning towards a finish so tensile you risk cutting yourself. |
