Product Overview
Chateau Leoville Barton La Reserve de Leoville Barton Saint-Julien 2018 offers an exceptional, traditional Bordeaux experience from one of the region's prestigious estates. With an elegant blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc, this second wine from the renowned Leoville Barton winery presents a complex and aromatic profile. On the nose, you'll encounter vibrant forest berries, cedarwood, coffee, and delicate vanilla spice, making it both expressive and refined. The palate is equally sophisticated, with a smooth, long-lasting finish that highlights its well-rounded tannins and harmonious structure.
Winemaking Process
The grapes undergo a meticulous fermentation process, lasting about five days, during which the must is pumped over twice daily to extract essential flavours and fine tannins. Post-fermentation, the wine is left on the skins for two weeks, depending on the quality of the crop, to ensure optimal colour and flavour extraction. Following the fermentation, malolactic conversion occurs in vats, adding a roundness to the palate. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 12 months to enhance its complexity and depth. The pressing of the skins contributes to the final blend, ensuring a perfect balance of elegance and intensity.

Winery | "The history of Chateau Leoville Barton began in 1722 when Irishman Thomas Barton moved from Ireland to the Bordeaux region, where he established a successful trading company. His grandson bought Chateau Langoa and part of the Leoville estate in 1826. The current owner, Anthony Barton, lives in the beautiful 18th-century Chateau Langoa and makes two wines, Chateau Leoville Barton and Chateau Langoa-Barton. He now owns 51 hectares of vineyard at Chateau Leoville-Barton which lies close to the Gironde, sandwiched between the water and Chateau Talbot. They have a typical St. Julien terroir of gravelly soils over deep clay. Plantings are 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the remainder being 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, reflecting the classic, Cabernet-dominated wine produced in the region. " The vines are trained using the Double Guyot method with high-density planting. The average age of the vines is 45 years, producing an average yield of 42 hectolitres per hectare. The soil is gravel of varying depths on top of a clay subsoil. Traditional ploughing and pruning occur; weed killers are not used, and fertilisers are used only in limited quantities. |
