Overview
The Bodegas Vinatigo Marmajuelo Islas Canarias Tenerife 2022 is a remarkable white wine that showcases the unique terroir of the Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife. Made from 100% Marmajuelo grapes, this wine offers an aromatic experience that is both vibrant and distinctive. The 2022 vintage, shaped by the year’s unusual weather patterns, delivers a wine that balances freshness and tension, with an opulent fruit profile and crisp acidity.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, this wine is highly aromatic and intense, bursting with pure notes of passion fruit and fig tree leaves. These vibrant aromas are complemented by a bright, fresh palate that offers an abundance of ripe fruit, leading to a crisp and persistent finish. The mouthfeel is lively and well-balanced, with the ocean breezes from the Atlantic and the warm temperatures of the island's vineyards contributing to the wine’s salty, fresh character.
The 2022 vintage was influenced by cloudy conditions, likely a result of global warming and proximity to the Sahara Desert. These factors allowed for slow ripening and helped retain the wine's natural acidity, which provides freshness and tension. The vines close to the ocean experienced cooler temperatures, resulting in a wine that combines tropical fruit notes with a bracing freshness.
Vintage Characteristics
The 2022 vintage stands out due to its cloudy weather and slower ripening process, offering a fresh and tension-filled wine. The Atlantic Ocean’s influence added a subtle salty note, which brings additional complexity to the wine. This vintage marks a noticeable departure from the hot, dry years typical of the region, making it a fascinating snapshot of how climate conditions shape the final product.

Winery | Vijariego Blanco is a variety that offers great adaptability in the vineyard, growing from sea level up to 1,000 meters. The absence of phylloxera in the Canary Islands has preserved many other unique varieties, creating an unparalleled viticultural heritage. As a result, the vines are ungrafted, allowing for a complete interaction between the plant and soil. The combination of volcanic soils, the cooling Alisios trade winds, and the distinctive microclimates found on the island contribute to the extraordinary personalities of the wines. The vineyard is managed sustainably without the use of herbicides or synthetic products. The vineyards are manually cultivated from the beginning of August to mid-November; the higher the plot, the later the harvest. |
