Tasting Notes – Akrathos Halkidiki Oros 2022
Aromas
Aromatically expressive, the nose opens with vibrant citrus fruits—bergamot, pink grapefruit, and fresh pear—complemented by delicate white flowers and subtle hints of fresh-cut herbs.
Palate
The palate bursts with crisp acidity and invigorating flavours of zesty lemon, ripe green apple, and juicy stone fruits. A refined mineral edge, characteristic of Assyrtiko, runs through the wine, providing structure and a lingering, saline finish. The texture is smooth and elegant, thanks to careful lees ageing.
Winemaking
Fermented with a mix of wild and cultured yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine preserves its purity and aromatic intensity. Post-fermentation, it aged for six months on fine lees, followed by 12 months of maturation to enhance its complexity, mouthfeel, and aromatic layers.

Winery | The organically cultivated vineyard is located on the eastern slopes of Mount Cholomon, facing Mount Athos and the Syggitikos Gulf. The vines are grown at 200 to 500 meters, just a short distance from the Aegean Sea. Ocean breezes and cool, humid winds from the surrounding mountains at night strongly influence the vines. This temperate climate allows for natural, bright acidity and contributes to the seasonal hydration of the vines, allowing the precious natural resources to be used more sparingly. In addition to moderate watering, the shallow, sandy loam soil and the slate subsoil ensure low yields and concentrated juice. In contrast, the soil's high copper content and limestone provide a foundation for satisfying minerality. The vines are cane pruned, single—and double-Guyot trained, and the grapes reach excellent maturity with balanced acidity and good phenolic density. The grapes are 100% hand-harvested. |
