Agricola Tenuta Colpaola Matelica Verdicchio 2023
Agricola Tenuta Colpaola Matelica Verdicchio 2023: A Refreshing Expression of Marche’s Terroir
Wine Description: The Agricola Tenuta Colpaola Matelica Verdicchio 2023 is a striking white wine from the heart of Italy’s Marche region, specifically from the prestigious Verdicchio di Matelica area. Crafted entirely from 100% Verdicchio grapes, this organic, vegan-friendly wine showcases the exceptional qualities of the local terroir, offering a sophisticated balance of fresh citrus, delicate white floral aromas, and a vibrant minerality.
With an ABV of 13.5%, the Matelica Verdicchio 2023 is dry, yet boasts a beautifully persistent finish marked by a touch of salinity. The wine’s bright acidity complements its citrusy notes of lemon and lime, making it both crisp and refreshing. Subtle hints of almond and herbs develop over time, adding complexity to the overall profile. A clean, smooth finish follows, leaving an invigorating sensation that lingers on the palate.
Winemaker Aroldo Bellelli’s minimal-intervention approach ensures that the true expression of the Verdicchio variety shines through. The grapes undergo careful selection, gentle pressing, and cool static decantation before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This method preserves the natural purity of the fruit, while the wine matures in stainless steel for four months, followed by two months of cellaring before release.
Ideal for pairing with light seafood dishes, fresh salads, or soft cheeses, this wine is a perfect reflection of the pristine environment in which it is produced.

Winery | The Marche in Central Italy is where the Verdicchio flourishes as one of Italy’s finest native white varieties. Verdicchio translates as ‘little green one’ due to a distinctive green tinge on the grapes even when fully ripe. The vineyard is located in the DOC of Verdicchio di Matelica, which has a north-south orientation parallel to the Adriatic Sea. Mountains on either side create a valley, sheltering the vines from seaborne ventilation. The Verdicchio vines are Matelicese clones, which were planted in 2007 at a density of 3,200 vines per hectare. The Guyot-trained vines are organically cultivated with an east-facing orientation at 650 meters’ elevation on the hills behind Mount San Vicino in the hamlet of Braccano. The climate is distinctively continental, with warm summers and cold winters. The diurnal temperature variation extends the growing season, producing aromatic wines with naturally high acidity. Harvests take place in the second half of October. The grapes are certified organic and are harvested by hand. |
