- An elegant and textured style of Chardonnay, with rich honey, lanolin and lemon balm notes complemented by layers of spice and toasty oak. A slightly richer style than the Peninsula Chardonnay with more weight and texture from the French oak barrels used. The honeyed notes are more prominent, and the typical, lifted acidity offsets the ripe peach and lemon balm notes. It is a definite wine to be enjoyed with food.
The fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, and the unclarified juice was fermented in new and one-year-old French oak puncheons and barriques. Initially, it was stirred monthly in barrels to build weight and complexity. It did not go through malolactic conversion, retaining the natural acidity to balance the rich style. The wine was matured in French oak, of which 30% was new.
This is a rich and textured Chardonnay with complex aromas of citrus, white nectarine, and nutty, toasty notes. Lovely weight on the palate is lifted by fine, natural freshness through an exquisitely long finish.

Winery | The fruit for this wine came from the ‘Estate’ vineyard and the Callanan’s Road vineyard. The fruit comes from low-yielding vines, some over 30 years old. They are grown in the typical red volcanic, iron-rich soil known as Ferrasol. The vines are sustainably cultivated, respecting the balance of the soil and the environment's biodiversity. |
