The vineyard is located close to the sea, with sea breezes producing a cooling effect which combined with the high levels of humidity, enhances the fruit flavors in the grapes. The vines are trained vertically with strict water control which helps to moderate vigor and encourage small concentrated grapes. Yields are approximately five tonnes per hectare. The vines are grown in granite and alluvial soils. All the grapes are handpicked at optimal maturity levels, before being taken immediately to the winery to retain freshness.

Ventolera is an exciting new venture between founder Vicente Izquierdo and one of Chile's top winemakers Stefano Gandolini. The vineyard, which was planted in 1999, is located in the region of the Leyda Valley, just six kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. The area is being singled out as being Chile's newest and most radical cool-climate wine region, which is strongly influenced by the cooling effects of the Humboldt Current that flows up from the Antarctic. ‘Ventolera’ is a Spanish word that refers to this strong sea wind; its cooling influence is instrumental in producing wonderfully elegant wines.
