Umani Ronchi Pelago 2017: A Premium Italian Red Wine from Marche
The Umani Ronchi Pelago 2017 is a meticulously crafted red wine by the renowned Italian producer Umani Ronchi. Located in the picturesque region of Marche, this exceptional wine blends three distinct grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and an indigenous grape variety from the Conero area, offering a truly unique expression of the region’s terroir. With an alcohol content of 14% ABV, this wine delivers an impressive combination of power and finesse.
Vinification and Oak Ageing
The grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being aged for 14 months in oak barriques, imparting subtle yet sophisticated flavors to the wine. This careful aging process contributes to the complexity of the wine, enhancing its structure while maintaining a smooth and refined mouthfeel.
Tasting Notes
On the palate, the Umani Ronchi Pelago 2017 unfurls an enticing bouquet of forest berries, vanilla, and mineral aromas. The tannins, though noticeable, are mature and integrated, offering a harmonious balance with the wine’s inherent elegance. The nose presents a typical Cabernet Sauvignon profile, with intense and refined spice notes of coffee, black pepper, liquorice, and tobacco, all against a delicate backdrop of grass and hay. This captivating combination of flavors and aromas ensures a long-lasting finish that is both smooth and refined.

Winery | The Umani Ronchi story began in 1957 when Gino Umani Ronchi established a small farm in the heart of the Verdicchio Classico region. Just a few years later, the Bianchi-Bernetti family purchased the farm, and although they retained the original name, they certainly put their indelible stamp on it. An early focus on export coupled with a keen eye for expansion opportunities helped them establish Umani Ronchi as the global brand it is today. With 210 hectares under vine in Castelli di Jesi, Conero, and Abruzzo and a dedicated winemaking facility in each region, they have achieved scale whilst retaining an unwavering focus on typicity and quality. The result is a range of wines highlighting both the versatility and the quality potential of the Marche’s and Abruzzo’s native grape varieties. |
