Lomond Wines Pincushion Cape Agulhas Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is an elegant, cool-climate white wine crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, sourced from the southernmost vineyards of Africa. Produced by renowned winemaker Hannes Meyer, this award-winning wine captures the essence of the Cape Agulhas terroir, defined by its brisk Atlantic breezes and unique soils.
With an ABV of 13.5% and a residual sugar of just 2.6 g/l, this is a dry Sauvignon Blanc (Dry/Sweet scale: 1), perfectly balancing zesty fruit with a clean, crisp finish. Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans, it is made without the use of milk, eggs, or animal-derived fining agents. Bottled under screwcap for maximum freshness.
Tasting Notes
A Sauvignon Blanc with Distinctive Coastal Complexity
Intense aromas of passionfruit dominate the bouquet, interwoven with vibrant citrus tones of lime and grapefruit. On the palate, you’ll find layers of tropical fruit and subtle gooseberry, all lifted by the distinctive oyster shell minerality characteristic of the Cape Agulhas vineyards. The exceptionally long, cool ripening period of the 2020 winter allowed for superb phenolic ripeness at lower sugar levels, creating a wine with vivid fruit purity, textured mouthfeel, and natural acidity that ensures perfect balance.

Winery | The Lomond estate is surrounded by indigenous flora known as Fynbos. This vineyard wine is named after a vulnerable listed species endemic to the Agulhas Region, ‘Leucospermum Patersonii’ or the ‘Silver-Edged Pincushion’. This site was purposely chosen for its specific terroir consisting primarily of sandy loam soils, which offer good drainage but poor fertility and produce concentrated, aromatic fruit. This is one of the highest vineyards on the farm, situated on the southeast-facing slopes of Ben Lomond, which ensures that the prevailing summer winds off the sea cool the vineyard. The breezes blow directly off the ocean in both a south-easterly and south-westerly direction, providing consistent coolness throughout the summer, with temperatures seldom reaching above 30°C. This cool microclimate creates a slow ripening period, allowing the grapes to build flavour complexity and produce naturally balanced wines. |
