Producer Note
Weingut Weegmüller has over 300 years of winemaking history. The Weegmüller
sisters Stefanie and Gabrielle have excelled in making delicious wines from the
Palatinate region for over 30 years. Having started in 1984, owner Stefanie was one of
the first female winemakers in Germany’s wine industry. Not only has she mastered
all the technical aspects of winemaking, but she brings both heart and soul to her
work. Gabrielle carefully manages the commercial aspects of the business. The
vineyards are farmed organically and the yields are restricted to gain concentration
and weight, resulting in wines that are wonderfully rich and food friendly.

Vintage
The winter and spring were very dry, with very little rain. Flowering took place very
early, around the end of May 2019. Showers in May helped to replenish the water
reserves in the soil. A hot and dry summer followed, which allowed the grapes to
ripen well. The vintage started very early, with picking at the end of September and
despite the hot and dry conditions during summer the vines produced high yields of
good quality fruit.

Vineyard
The grapes are produced in the outstanding vineyard sites of the Mittelhaardt.
Almost 90% of Weingut Weegmuller's vineyards are located in the top classified
region of Haardt. This district takes its name from the low-lying Haardt Mountains,
which play a vital role in the terroir here. The grapes for this wine come from a
vineyard which is situated on one third Haardt soil and two thirds Neustadt soil. The
soils are made up of sand and clay over deep slate, which helps to impart a touch
of minerality to the wine. The name of the wine Mandelring, is thought to come from
the German word Mandel, meaning almonds, as there may have been almond
trees originally planted on the site. The vineyards are cultivated as naturally as
possible.

Winemaking
Germany has revolutionised its winemaking over recent years. This wine epitomises
the new style of German wines, which have a wonderful balance of fruit, acidity and
relatively low alcohol. The wine was fermented in stainless steel at temperatures
controlled at approximately 18°C and was fermented through to dryness. The wine
was made without any oak influence, in order to retain the purity of fruit and the
essence of the terroir.
