Weingut Villa Gutenberg Johannisberger Erntebringer Riesling Kabinett Rheingau 2018

A lively and delicate off-dry wine with a slight pétillance, fresh with floral notes of lime and peaches and passionfruit.

Producer Note

This 18-hectare family owned winery is located among lush vineyards at the banks of the Rhine River in the heart of the most important Riesling growing region in the world. The vineyards extend from Rüdesheim to Hochheim. Different slope angles, soil substrates and micro-climates produce unique and complex wines. Great emphasis is placed on professional care, environmental responsibility and care for the grapevines, with the aim of producing wines of the highest quality. Wines are offered in the “Rhinegau flute“, which is an elegant, antique-green flask with bevelled edges

Vintage

The 2018 vintage in the Rheingau will be remembered for being a hot vintage with low rainfall. The temperatures did not quite reach the highs of 2003, but nevertheless were hotter than 1947, 1994 and 1976. The drought conditions caused few problems in the vineyards and helped to prevent disease. The quality of the grapes was excellent, due to the perfect health and maturity of the grapes and has been cited as an outstanding vintage.

Vineyard

The Rheingau region, where the Villa Gutenberg vineyards are located, extends from the ''Mainspitze''near Hochheim to the Middle Rhine, beyond Rüdesheim. This small growing region that encompasses an area of around 3,000 hectares of vineyards has written wine-growing history up until today. Various soil types from clay to quartz, loam and loess add complexity to the resulting wine. The vines enjoy a unique climate, which is one of the most important prerequisites for optimal ripening and exceptional bouquet.

Winemaking

A cool fermentation took place in stainless steel, to retain the freshness and primary aromas of the Riesling grapes.

Tasting Note

A heady sensation of apple, pear, sweet peach and honey on the nose, leads to a perfectly balanced 'sweet and sour' palate of floral and citrus notes with a delightful, lingering finish.
