- This wine shows an array of fruit characters, ranging from citrus to tropical notes. This is complemented by some secondary characters from the natural yeast ferments and also some barrel aging. The palate has an elegant structure with a creamy, textural mid-palate and a long finish.
- Musky aromas and flavors of lemon-lime, pepper, and herbs, plus a subtle suggestion of ripe peach. Plush and broad but with harmonious spicy, grapefruit notes giving the wine lift. Fresh but fully ripe and nicely tactile, even plush, and long on the aftertaste.
Establishing Mahi, meaning ‘our work, our craft’, was a long-held dream for Brian and Nicola Bicknell. A seasoned international winemaker, Brian made Mahi’s first vintage in 2001, and in 2006 they finally purchased a winery in the very heart of Marlborough. It is the texture of these wines that particularly impresses; while far from heavy, they have a sense of substance that places them among the very best in Marlborough.
The wine was whole-cluster Iressed to minimize skin contact and only free-run juice was used, of which twenty percent was fermented in older French barriques at uI to 0ºC, and the rest in stainless steel. thirty-nine percent used indigenous yeast. The wine was then kept on its lees for nine months before bottling
