- Bodegas Valdemar is a family company whose roots date back to 1889, and whose Riojas has long been a reference point for the DO. Despite this their approach is very much forward-looking; having pioneered many techniques in the region, from barrel fermentation and temperature control to saignée-method rosado, their style tends towards the modern.
Fincas Valdemacuco is the first foray outside Rioja for Bodegas Valdemar, who have poured over a century of winemaking experience into this new venture from Spain’s other great Tempranillo-producing region. The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Nava de Roa district near the Duero river itself, and offer a distinctive clarity and freshness of fruit, which sensitive winemaking and a brief passage in oak barrel have served to enhance.
