“The blue fruit and dark berry aromas are so attractive and catching. Black licorice and blackberry notes. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins. I like the way the wine rolls over the tongue. Beautiful finish. One of the most structured Chadwicks Vineyard ever. A great bottle. Needs four to five years to soften. “The price of the 2016 Chadwick Vineyard seems to be going through the roof, and so does the quality. This is a unique, classical Maipo Cabernet… Complex, layered, fresh and tasty, it has very fine tannins and is nicely structured but terribly elegant at the same time ”

Vinedo Chadwick 2016

Viñedo Chadwick represents the materialization of a long-cherished desire on the part of the Chadwick family to honor the memory of the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz with an ultra Premium red wine that expresses the lineage, tradition and experience of the Chadwick-Errázuriz family in the production of fine wines that reflect the family passion for excellence. The goal is to make an elegant wine, with freshness and purity, that shows the Maipo Valley at its best. Even though Don Alfonso never saw the finished wine, he is remembered in every bottle of Viñedo Chadwick.

The first vintage of Viñedo Chadwick (1999) was launched with great success in 2002. Its second vintage (2000) would make history shortly after, on January 23, 2004, when the Berlin Tasting took place.

Since its first vintage, Viñedo Chadwick has consistently received the highest praise and accolades, including being ranked by Robert Parker as the highest-scoring Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon for five consecutive years.

The 2014 vintage marked a milestone in the history of Chilean wine, as well as for the family winery. In May 2016, Viñedo Chadwick 2014 obtained a perfect score of 100 points, becoming the first Chilean wine to receive the highest recognition worldwide.

The vineyard has been divided into different barracks, which are independently monitored through aerial photographs to follow the progress of maturity. This allows us to identify homogeneous barracks and differentiate harvest times according to each case. The grapes are harvested by hand in the cool hours of the morning to avoid exposing them to high temperatures and preserve the quality of the fruit. They are then transported to the winery in small boxes of 15 kilos, where they are carefully inspected on a double selection table to remove plant debris and defective berries in order to ensure the quality of the wine. Fermentation takes place between 28 ° and 31 ° C in small stainless steel tanks to increase the percentage of contact between the skins and the juice.

The wine was racked into French oak barrels, whose percentage of new barrels varies according to each vintage. There the malolactic fermentation takes place in our underground barrel room. Each batch is aged separately to maximize assembly options.

Final blend decisions are made well into the aging process just before bottling. The premise is to be able to make the best mixing decisions after the barracks have developed their unique characteristics in the barrel. This allows us to have more control each year over the quality and character of the final wine.

In 1942, Don Alfonso Chadwick bought 300 hectares of fields and vineyards that belonged to Viña San José de Tocornal in the Alto Maipo valley. When the property was later divided, the family retained the house and 25 key hectares of land, including Don Alfonso's polo field.

Eduardo Chadwick, foreseeing the potential of this unique terroir, convinced his father to turn his beloved polo field into a vineyard. Thus, in 1992 it was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

The space between the rows is 2 meters by 1.2 meters between the vines, with a density of 4,166 plants per hectare. The conduction of the vines is in trellis and the pruning in cordon. The cool morning breezes that come down from the mountains, the orientation of the rows and the moderate daytime temperatures allow the grapes to ripen to perfection, preserving their freshness and acidity.

Chadwick Vineyard is managed using sustainable agricultural practices. Ground covers are planted in autumn and spring to control vigor and create a natural environment for selected plants to control harmful insects for the vineyard. As part of these practices, compost is produced during the winter to fertilize the vineyard naturally.

According to the vigor observed during the growing season, the vineyard is divided into different quarters that are independently monitored. For each of these barracks, decisions are made to guarantee that the fruit will be harvested in optimal conditions of maturity and homogeneity. Yields are kept at a maximum of 3 to 4 tons per hectare.

For careful control of yields, irrigation is carried out under a unique and advanced drip irrigation system that allows different irrigation sequences for each barracks.
During the harvest, the different barracks are harvested separately at different times. Even the same row can be harvested at two or three different times. Only the best grapes are harvested, and the entire harvest is done by hand.
