Vina Ventolera Valle de Leyda Pinot Noir 2016

Lovely earthy, warm and savoury style of Pinot Noir,
elegant and layered with a fine, long and structured
finish.

Producer Note
Ventolera is an exciting new venture between founder Vicente Izquierdo and one of
Chile's top winemakers Stefano Gandolini. The vineyard, which was planted in 1999,
is located in the region of the Leyda Valley, just six kilometres from the Pacific Ocean.
The area is being singled out as being Chile's newest and most radical cool-climate
wine region, which is strongly influenced by the cooling effects of the Humboldt
Current that flows up from the Antarctic. ‘Ventolera’ is a Spanish word which refers to
this strong sea wind; its cooling influence is instrumental in producing wonderfully
elegant wines.

Vintage
The summer season was cool with cloudy weather during January and February,
which slowed down the ripening of the grapes. Early crop adjustments were made
in order to produce grapes with the optimal balance between alcohol and acidity.
The fruit harvested is elegant and delivers beautiful mineral tones.

Vineyard
The vineyard is located close to the sea, with sea breezes producing a cooling effect
which combined with the high levels of humidity, enhances the fruit flavours in the
grapes. The vines are trained vertically with strict water control which helps to
moderate vigour and encourage small concentrated grapes. Yields are
approximately five tonnes per hectare. The vines are grown in granite and alluvial
soils. All the grapes are hand-picked at optimal maturity levels, before being taken
immediately to the winery in order to retain freshness.

Winemaking
Hand- selected grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks at controlled
temperatures of 23°C with a total maceration time of 18 days. The wine was aged in
new French oak barrels for 14 months. This wine was bottled without fining.

Tasting Note
The vibrant bouquet of cherries and raspberries is a distinctive hallmark of the Leyda
Valley Pinot Noir. Expressive and layered on the palate, with great freshness, purity of
fruit and a long, structured finish.
