Imbued with a sense of history, the Mueller family has retraced the roots of Buitenverwachting. The farm was lovingly restored to its former glory while extensive planting of the most selected of cultivars was initiated. The result was a maiden grape harvest of 100 tonnes - the first harvest the farm had seen in 30 years. A historic achievement that lived up to its name: Buitenverwachting - "Beyond Expectation

Winery | It all began in Constantia, the narrow peninsula where Governor Simon van der Stel planted 750 hectares of vines in 1685. The South African wine industry has had many changes of fortune in the three centuries since, but this historic estate remains divided now between five wineries. Buitenverwachting, meaning ‘beyond expectation’, belongs to the Mueller family, who have lovingly restored its buildings and reputation as a source of exquisite South African wine. The Sauvignon is a reference point for that famous Europe-meets-New World style, and the reds, from Bordeaux varieties, also show a telling combination of purity and ripeness. |
