This is the personal project of Scala Dei’s winemaker Richard Rofes. The name RAR not only refers to the initials of Richard Rofes, but also means “rare” in Catalan. The rarity here refers to the winemaking style, which avoids the heavily oaked and extracted style of wines common to Priorat, in favour of a more elegant, fresh and fruit-driven expression.

Deep ruby red colour with fresh red and black fruit in the nose with an elegant malolactic spiciness. Balanced and above all pure, pure and juicy in structure, with perfect refined tannins.

In 2011, the technical director of Scala Dei (friends of the 'Fernando Mora MW' wines known for his Garnacha) set up a personal small-scale project, and their 'RAR' (weird – separate style) wine was born: a must try modern, new, unique style in the Priorat world.
Rar is Catalan for weird, which no longer means unique, special and exceptional.
TERROIR : In the heart of the Priorat at more than 500 meters altitude (which ensures the typical freshness of the better Priorat wines), on the typical llicorella rock terraces – vines that are between 30 and 90 years old.
VINIFICATION : 4 months in French oak barrels, this to soften the wine and give more rondeur without masking the delicious crunchy black fruit.
TYPE : red – fruity, characterful and juicy
Alcohol : 14%
GRAPES : 80% Garnacha, 15% Cariñena, 5% Syrah
TASTING NOTES : Deep ruby red colour with fresh red and black fruit in the nose with an elegant malolactic spiciness. Balanced and above all pure, pure and juicy in structure, with perfect refined tannins.
GASTRONOMY : Very widely applicable in red meat dishes including lamb preparations.
STORAGE CAPACITY : Delicious from the age of 2 with a storage potential of at least 8 years.
