Vintage
2019 marks a return to a more Mediterranean profile than the previous year. There
was less rain than in 2018; the rain fell mainly in autumn and winter, with a marked
absence during the summer which experienced a series of heatwaves. Managing
the water levels was a key issue in the vineyards. Mild temperatures in winter and
spring resulted in early budding, which required protection from frost using special
candles. Timely spring showers guaranteed a good supply of minerals essential for
the growth and development of the leaf canopy. Flowering, véraison and ripening
were all delayed by seven to 10 days compared to 2018. The vines were in excellent
health at harvest and the grapes reached good levels of maturity.

Vineyard
Gérard Bertrand's commitment to sustainable agriculture has been recognised with
the ECOCERT certification, guaranteeing organic production, environmentally-friendly
packaging and a low carbon footprint.

Winemaking
The grapes were harvested by hand when they had reached peak maturity,
destemmed and left to macerate in the traditional manner for 10 to 15 days in
temperature controlled stainless steel vats. This allowed the distinctive Syrah flavours
to shine through, with prominent red fruits and spices, framed by silky, delicate
tannins. The wine went though malolactic conversion in stainless steel vats and was
then matured in vat, preserving Syrah's fruity character.

Tasting Note
Deeply coloured with a generous nose, packed with red fruit and spice. Supple,
aromatic and impeccably elegant on the palate, with refined tannins and lively fruit
flavours offset by subtle herbaceous aromas.
