Chateau Citran Haut-Medoc 2010

Complex and appealing aromas of wild black fruits, ripe
blackcurrant and toasty nuances lead to an elegant
and fine palate. A wine with plenty of expression.

Producer Note
One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, Château Citran dates back to the 13th
century and was run by the Donissan de Citran family for over six hundred years, until
1832. Over the years, the Château changed hands, with each owner investing in
and improving this historic Château. In 1945, it was purchased by the Bordelais
Merlaut family, who re-established the estate’s reputation while respecting its
historical roots. In 2012, the Château was designated a historical monument and
today is frequented by dazzling turquoise peacocks roaming in the grounds.
Together with renowned consultant oenologist Eric Boissenot, Château de Citran
produces this wonderfully seductive wine, with harmonious balance, elegance and
complexity.

Vintage
2010 was an exceptional season. The sunny, warm weather during the growing
season and near-perfect climatic conditions throughout, contributed to the success
of this vintage. 2010 is characterised by a strong concentration of anthocyanins, ripe
and silky tannins and wonderful power.

Vineyard
The vineyard at Château Citran comprises two large parcels; one surrounds the
Château, the second borders onto the village. The 94 hectare vineyard is planted
with Cabernet Sauvignon (42 hectares), Merlot (47.5 hectares) and Cabernet Franc
(4.5 hectares). The Château recently embarked on a renovation programme and
meticulous attention has been paid to the vineyard. Reorientation of some of the
rows has led to parcels benefitting from more sunshine and producing more
flavoursome berries. The vines are planted in a combination of sandy, gravelly soils
with marly chalky soils, which impart great elegance. The harvests take place
manually, plot by plot when the grapes have reached optimum maturity. Rigorous
sorting takes place in the vineyard and on the sorting table to ensure only the top
quality fruit is vinified.

Winemaking
The grapes were traditionally vinified at 28°C. The fermenting must was racked to
new French oak barrels where it underwent partial malolactic fermentation. The wine
was aged in French oak barrels, of which 38% were new, with racking every three
months. Fined with egg whites before being estate bottled.
