Tasting notes - Concentrated flavours of black cherry, blackcurrant, Kalamata olive, and perfumed wild flowers, lead to an elegant palate with a structure reminiscent of finely powdered cocoa or dense dark chocolate. The finish is long incorporating freshly roasted coffee beans, toasty oak and spice.

A lush, full-bodied Pinot Noir. Ripe cherry and plum dominate with a touch of oak and a velvety texture.

Producer Note
Neal and Judy Ibbotson were pioneers in the Marlborough wine industry, first planting vineyards in the valley in 1978 and then establishing Saint Clair Family Estate in 1994. They own 160 hectares of vineyard in ten different Marlborough locations chosen specifically for the attributes of their individual "terroir" and ability to produce top quality grapes. Neal Ibbotson combines his extensive expertise in viticulture with the talent of one of New Zealand's leading winemaking teams, led by Matt Thomson and Hamish Clark. Since 1994, when wines from the first vintage all won medals including gold, the name Saint Clair has been synonymous with quality and its award-winning record continues today. Vineyard
Sourced from a single vineyard in the Delta region within the Southern Valleys subregion, where the vines are grown in clay soils. A naturally low cropping vineyard that produces tight bunches with small berries which intensifies the wine's flavour and concentration. The wine contains clones 115 and a whole cluster component of 27%. The vineyard was harvested at the optimum ripeness and flavour profile. Winemaking
The grapes were destemmed and cold soaked for four to five days to help extract maximum flavour and enhance colour stability. Cultured yeasts were employed to carry out the primary alcoholic fermentation and the must was hand plunged up to six times daily. At dryness each batch was pressed to tank and then racked off its gross lees to a mixture of 69% new and 31% seasoned French oak. Each batch underwent a malolactic fermentation and was aged for 10 months on the lees before being selected for this blend. The final wine was stabilised, lightly fined and prepared for bottling. Tasting Note
A lush, full-bodied Pinot Noir with well integrated tannins and lovely freshness. Ripe cherry and plum flavours dominate the palate, supported by subtle hints of coffee. Time in new and used French oak also gives the wine structural support and savoury smoky notes. Serving Suggestion
An ideal partner with game or lamb served with mushrooms or rich savoury sauces.
