M Chapoutier Le Meal Hermitage Rouge 2014

R. Parker - Wine Advocate - 95/100
"The sweetly fruited, downright sexy 2014 Ermitage le Meal offers plenty of raspberry jam, toasted bread and floral notes in a ripe, expansive, mouth-filling style. Like all the wines here, the tannin quality is incredible. You can drink this today with ample pleasure, but it will keep for two decades."
Vinous - 93/100
"Bright purple. High-pitched aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, potpourri and smoky minerals are complemented by suggestions of cracked pepper and cola. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering deeply concentrated blueberry and violet pastille flavors that become more energetic with air. Chewy tannins build steadily on the finish, which lingers with impressive tenacity and resonating mineral and floral qualities."
Jancis Robinson - 18/20
"Solid, rich and hugely friendly. Exuberant. But denser than the Greffieux.Drink 2018-2038"
La Revue du Vin de France - 16,5/20

M Chapoutier Le Meal Hermitage Rouge 2014

100% Syrah.
Terroir
The wine is only produced with grapes
coming from the Méal hillside.
This slope is composed of high terraces
of shingles and clay.
The vines are about 50 years old.
Harvest
Hand harvesting at maturity.
Vinification
The harvest, totally destemmed, is vinified
in a small cement vat. High temperature
maceration enables a good extraction
of grape potential, to obtain soft and stable
tannins, compulsory to keep the wine
for a very long time. Only the free-run juice is used
in this single vineyard.
Maturing
Wine is matured in new or one year old cask.
Maturing lasts between 14 and
18 months. The clarification is natural.
Tasting
Colour: deep garnet red with purple lights
during its youth.
Nose: ripe fruits and smoky aromas.
Palate: powerful tannins, velvety, blackberry jam.
According to the vintage, the wine can be
kept from 30 to 60 years, indeed from
50 to 75 years.
