A lively and herbaceous wine with pear and dried apricot notes with subtle peppery spice and a lovely sustained flavour.
One of the main protagonists in the renaissance of Southern Italian wines, Feudi di San Gregorio has carved out a reputation for making truly world-class wines in less than 30 years. The company began in the mid 1980s with the aim of safeguarding local traditions and unlocking the potential of key indigenous grapes such as Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico.
The winter leading up to the 2017 harvest was cold and snowy which led into a dry spring. Summer was hot and dry which enabled the vine’s growth cycle to proceed correctly. The grapes were of good quality at harvest time.
The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle hills in Sorbo Serpico, approximately an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The soils are uniquely volcanic, sandstone and marl. Each vineyard is closely monitored with a meteorological station and combined with the technologies of the new stateof-the-art wine cellar; they ensure that each vintage comes as close to perfection as possible. The soil in the vineyards is predominantly volcanic, which imparts the distinctive minerality in the resulting wine.
Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of between 16° to 18°C. The wine was then matured for a period of four to five months on its lees with frequent lees stirring or "bâtonnage", resulting in a wine with greater texture and complexity.
