A lively and herbaceous wine with fresh grapefruit and
subtle spice, full of flavour.
Producer Note
One of the main protagonists in the renaissance of Southern Italian wines, Feudi di
San Gregorio has carved out a reputation for making truly world-class wines in less
than 30 years. The company began in the mid 1980s with the aim of safeguarding
local traditions and unlocking the potential of key indigenous grapes such as Fiano,
Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico.
Vintage
The 2016 vintage in Campania saw an abundance of rain in June, which resulted in
irregular fruit set and slowed down the ripening cycle. Autumn rains in September
did not help this challenging vintage. A severe green harvest and strict selection of
the grapes helped to save the vintage. Yields were down on 2015, the grapes that
remained produced aromatic wines, lighter in style with a refreshing acidity.
Vineyard
The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle
hills in Sorbo Serpico, approximately an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The
soils are uniquely volcanic, sandstone and marl. Each vineyard is closely monitored
with a meteorological station and combined with the technologies of the new stateof-
the-art wine cellar; they ensure that each vintage comes as close to perfection as
possible. The soil in the vineyards is predominantly volcanic, which imparts the
distinctive minerality in the resulting wine.
Winemaking
The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of
between 16° to 18°C. The wine was then matured for a period of four to five months
on its lees with frequent lees stirring or "bâtonnage", resulting in a wine with greater
texture and complexity.
Tasting Note
A vibrant wine with beautiful clarity and layers of classic pear, peach and green
plum fruit. Full bodied and bright on the palate, with a lively acidity and a sharp,
defined minerality, very typical of the region.
Serving Suggestion
