A dry and floral wine with flavours of exotic fruits and a hint of lime and green apple on the finish.
The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia represent the Frescobaldi’s expression of modern Tuscan wines: influenced and inspired by the Mediterranean sun, sea and coastal breezes. The modern Ammiraglia winery, designed by the architect Piero Sartogo, is reminiscent of the prow of a ship pointing towards the sea. Perfectly integrated amid the hills and covered with greenery, it combines the most recent technological innovations with respect for the land and surrounding nature. The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia are distinguished by the freshness, minerality and richness of the fruit. Gambero Rosso awarded Frescobaldi with the prestigious ‘Tre Bicchieri Winery of the Year Award 2020’, in recognition of its uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation.
The 2018 growing season was marked by abundant rainfall and a few snow storms during the winter, allowing for sufficient water reserves to be stored in the soil. Additional heavy rain in the spring caused a slight delay in sprouting. After this initial period, rising temperatures led to regular plant development. Very hot summer days contributed to excellent grape ripening and magnificent aromatic development. The sun and refreshing sea breezes of September were perfect companions during the harvest period, both leading to a compositional balance typical of this micro-climate.
In the heart of the Maremma is the Tenuta Ammiraglia Estate, where its vineyards draw an evocative geometry on the hills, skimming the nearby Tyrrhenian coast. The vineyards are warmed by the sun, mitigated by the sea's breezes. Enormous yellowish rocks characterise the landscape in which the Tenuta dell'Ammiraglia lies; emerging from the earth they are known as "massi vivi", living rocks, providing the origins of this wine's name.
Once harvested, the grapes were swiftly transported to the cellar where they were gently pressed. The must obtained underwent a cold static decanting process for approximately 12 hours, imbuing them with refinement and elegance. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. The wine was aged on fine lees, followed by further ageing in the bottle.
