Producer Note
Since 1988 Costa di Bussia winery and vineyards have been owned and managed by the Sartirano family. The Estate is located in the Bussia region of Piemonte, near the village of Monforte d'Alba. The Estate includes the famous vineyard of "Campo del Buoi" and "Campo del Gatto"; 15 hectares of vineyards that offer particular and complex wines. The Barolo Riserva offers complex aromas of crushed flowers, plums and fresh-cut Porcini with evident hints of mint. The Chardonnay is rich, elegant and long and the Dolcetto is fresh with hints of raspberries and sometines known as the "Beaujolais" of Italy. Vineyard
The vineyard covers 0.75 hectares and was planted in 1992. The vines are south to south east facing, which helps to maximise the sun's exposure, encouraging the vines to ripen. Trained on a Trellis system, the vines yield 100 quintals per hectare. The soils are predominantly marl and clay, which are naturally loose and are rich in minerals, ideal for the Chardonnay variety which thrives in these types of soils. Winemaking
The grapes were gently pressed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Following the fermentation, the wine underwent a malolactic fermentation, which softened the harsher malic acids into lactic ones, resulting in this appealing, softer style of wine. The wine was left to rest for six months on its fine lees, in stainless steel tanks which added texture and complexity whilst preserved the fruity characteristics. Tasting Note
