100% Mavrotragano from the terraces of Rassonas vineyard. Fermentation with whole berries and whole bunches in big oak casks with indigenous yeasts isolated from our vineyards. The wine matures for approximately 18 months in 500lts oak barrels.

T-Oinos is a project inspired by estate owner Alexandre Avatangelos and Gerard Margeon, the head sommelier of the Alain Ducasse Group, the wines are the first in 3,000 years to be produced from the volcanic soil of Tinos, a World Heritage-listed island of the Cyclades.

The Cycladic Island of Tinos, neighbour of the famous holiday island Mykonos, appears at first glance to be a challenging location for viticulture. Whilst the preponderance of granite soils auger well, the low rainfall and high winds and summer heat present significant difficulties for the vine grower. Vineyards have been cultivated here dating back to prehistoric times, but the migration of the island’s population from rural areas to towns and cities during the twentieth century, saw Tinos’ vineyards fall into a state of disrepair. This harsh landscape, however, only served to encourage Alexandre Avantangelos, who having left Greece for France at the age of seventeen, returned to the country of his birth and saw the potential lying dormant in this island. He began planting vineyards in 2002 and T-Oinos was established, with the first wines produced in 2008. Famed Bordeaux consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt was brought in to assist and his work alongside winemaker Thanos Georgilas has seen these unique wines achieve significant critical acclaim.

T-Oinos’ thirteen hectares of vineyards are located at four different sites on the eastern side of the island, where they grow native Greek varieties: the white Assyrtiko and Malagouzia, and the red Avgoustiatis and Mavrotragano.
