Producer Note
Weingut Weegmüller has over 300 years of winemaking history. The Weegmüller sisters Stefanie and Gabrielle have excelled in making delicious wines from the Palatinate region for over 30 years. Having started in 1984, owner Stefanie was one of the first female winemakers in Germanys wine industry. Not only has she mastered all the technical aspects of winemaking, but she brings both heart and soul to her work. Gabrielle carefully manages the commercial aspects of the business. The vineyards are farmed organically and the yields are restricted to gain concentration and weight, resulting in wines that are wonderfully rich and food friendly. Vineyard
The grapes are produced in the outstanding vineyard sites of the Mittelhaardt. Almost 90% of Weingut Weegmuller's vineyards are located in the top classified region of Haardt. This district takes its name from the low-lying Haardt mountains, which play a vital role in the terroir here. The grapes for this wine come from a vineyard which is situated on one thrird Haardt soil and two thirds Neustadt soil. The soils are made up of marl, loam and clay. The name of the wine Mandelring, is thought to come from the German word Mandel, meaning almonds, as there may have been almond trees originally planted on the site. Winemaking
Germany has revolutionised its winemaking over recent years. This wine epitomises the new style of German wines, which have a wonderful balance of fruit, acidity and relatively low alcohol. The fermentation for this wine took place in large wooden barrels. The wine rested in barrel, prior to bottling six months later. Tasting Note
A fruit driven Riesling with aromas of apple and peach. Rich but dry, the palate is harmonious and balanced, with a lovely intensity and a refreshing finish. Serving Suggestion
This wine makes a wonderful partner to exotic Asian cuisine and light seafood dishes. Also accompanies poultry and local Pfalz pork dishes.
