Producer Note
Legend has it that the origins of the name Château Trotte Vielle come form an old lady who lived in the house several hundred years ago. The property is at an intersection of two roads where a stagecoach used to stop and whenever a coach stopped the old lady trotted down to see what was happening and find out the gossip. Whatever the origins of the name we know the estate was in exsistence and making wine as far back as 1453. There is even a plot of the vines that date back to the time before phylloxera which are more than 120 years old. Today it is owned by negociant Borie-Manoux who makes wines of great finesse from the 10 hectare walled vineyard. Vineyard
Controlled yields using double and single Guyot trained vines with a planting density of 7,500 vines per hectare. The average age of the vines is around 50 years old. The utmost care in the vineyard seeing pruning and debudding in Spring, a green harvest in the Summer. Yields are around 29 hectalitres per hectare. Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested and then fermented in small, temperature-controlled concrete vats after manual sorting. The wine is matured in oak barriques (80% new) for 18 months. It is bottled unfiltered. Tasting Note
