A fine Pauillac showing aromas of cedar and cassis with generous fleshy fruit and good structure on the palate.
Producer Note
'Château Lynch-Bages, just outside Pauillac, owes its name partly to the very ancient hamlet of Bages where it is situated. The other half of the name comes from the marriage of Thomas Lynch to the daughter of the owner in 1749. The property was sold a few times but th name was re-established by the Cayrou brothers in 1862 and has remained unchanged ever since. The estate has been owned by the Cases family since the eve of world war II. " Vintage
2011 saw a remarkably warm and dry spring, consequently, flowering took place early and in fine conditions. July was cool and saw some rain, while August was mixed, cooler than average overall but with some heat spikes and some storms. September was warm and dry enabling the grapes to ripen fully. Vineyard
Sustainable agriculture is practiced in the vineyard. Precisely defined methods of fertilisation are used which have been specifically adapted to the soils, vineyard floor management strategies, such as weed control and cover cropping are used to control the vigour of the vine. Winemaking
The harvest began on 12th September, almost a fortnight earlier than 2010. Equipped with a new destemming system and optical sorter a complementary reception chain was trialled, receiving exclusively the harvest from the plots deemed the most heterogeneous. Fermentation took place in stainless steel with a three week maceration period. Running off and devatting were performed using gravity. Aged in French oak for 12 months, in barrels previously used for one vintage. Tasting Note
