Producer Note
André Brunel's family first settled in Châteauneuf du Pape in the 18th century and began estate bottling their wines in the middle of the 20th century. They own 22 hectares in Châteauneuf du Pape and 40 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône. André Brunel makes wines from his estate grown grapes as well as grapes from his neighbouring growers where he tends the vineyards. His son Fabrice has now joined the company to continue the family tradition. Vineyard
Sustainable farming methods without the use of herbicides or pesticides. All varieties are gobelet trained with the exception of the Syrah, which is trained vertically. Winemaking
The grapes were partially de-stemmed and crushed with the remainder vinified in whole bunches. Alcoholic fermentation was started by introducing selected yeasts and took place in temperature controlled concrete vats at 28-32°C. Daily pumping over took place. Part of the Syrah was aged in barriques (1/3 new, 1/3 one year old and the balance in two year old barriques). Only a small proportion of the total blend spends time in barriques. The different cuvées are blended after having spent 18 months in large oak casks and tanks. Tasting Note
