- Black plums and black cherries on the nose intermingled with subtle French oak and nuances of grilled meat. Rich and firm on the palate with bold, sweet fruit. A core of ripe black cherry lingers on the finish. All parcels were vinified separately and then assembled after barrel aging.
Our 2020 Marlborough Pinot Noir is a regional blend of some of the best vineyards around Rapaura, Marlborough. Located near the coast, these vineyards benefit from cold winds at night, locking in acidity and fruit freshness. 2020 was an exceptional vintage for Marlborough in general, with the Pinot noir produced being of high quality. This fruit was vinified in Marlborough, and the resultant wine was sent to Auckland for finishing. New Zealand Pinot Noir is almost always approachable in its youth and this wine is no exception. If you desire a more complex wine, further cellaring is recommended. This wine has been made in a very non-interventionalist style and so we expect it to form a harmless deposit during cellaring. Decanting is recommended
Andrew and Cynthia Hendry’s love of fine wine and food led them into winemaking, and they bought the land near Auckland on which Coopers Creek was established in 1980, to produce the very highest quality wines. This was the dawn of modern New Zealand wine, as domestic consumers discovered there was more to life than sweetish Müller-Thurgau! The Coopers Creek label first appeared in 1982, since they have continued to develop their vineyards, extend the range, and advance their reputation as one of the best performing and most eclectic medium-sized New Zealand wineries. Key to this has been sourcing multi-regionally; while a few lots of grapes still come from the home vineyards, Andrew tends to seek out regions where each variety performs at its best. The classic varietals are precisely that: pure expressions of the grapes, each sourced from the most suitable region. The Select Vineyards range is a step up in depth and complexity and also introduces the delights of Albariño and Arneis. Swamp Reserve Chardonnay is in a class of its own, not just in this range, but among New Zealand Chardonnays in general. Coopers Creek operates under the New Zealand Wine Growers' sustainable vineyard guidelines and is currently working on reducing their chemical use even further.
