  • The long-awaited introduction to Primitivo di Tormaresca, perfect by the glass thanks to its pleasant character.
  • NePriCa Primitivo is an intense ruby red color with light purplish hues. On the nose, fruity aromas of red fruit, such as sour cherries and wild berry jam blend with soft notes of licorice and sweet spices. On the the palate, its entry is soft, defined by round tannins, well-structured, and sustained by well-balanced freshness.

The grapes were destemmed, crushed, and transferred into stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation occurred over 8 – 10 days at a controlled temperature that did not exceed 26 °C (79 °F). Malolactic fermentation was completed by the beginning of winter. Neprica Primitivo was further aged in stainless steel tanks for approximately 8 months and an additional 4 months in a bottle.

It’s an intense ruby-red color with violet hues. The nose offers predominant notes of red fruit, black cherries, plums, and candied oranges together with delicate impressions of dog rose and licorice. The attack is full and supple. On the palate, NePriCa is savory and well-structured followed by a pleasant fruity finish.

Tormaresca is made up of two estates in different areas of Puglia: in the central, inland region of Castel del Monte they have Aglianico, and in the Salento peninsula of the extreme south-east, Primitivo and Negroamaro. Cabernet and Chardonnay are grown in both zones, giving the winemaker a broad palette from which to blend the very consistent entry-level wines. Antinori only invested here in 1998, yet in that time Tormaresca has become a flagship of Puglian production: Torcicoda combines the soft fruit of Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) with a definite Italian edge; Bocca di Lupo borrows the Aglianico variety from further west to thrilling, blackberryish effect; Masseria Maìme is regularly one of Puglia’s best, made from its greatest local grape, Negroamaro. Pietrabianca is the Cervaro of the south, its freshness, and elegance belying its hot-climate origins. All the vineyards are planted unusually densely, giving extra depth to the wines.
