- The wine is ruby red in color. The nose offers pleasant fruity notes and sensations of raspberries and plums that merge with sweet aromas similar to vanilla. The palate is well-balanced, soft, and defined by ripe silky tannins. A lengthy and persistent finish. A lifted, vibrant aroma of vanilla and ripe fruit, with firm structure and good length, showing the extra richness of Vino Nobile over Chianti, as well as the degree of warm spice and mineral complexity.
With its warmer climate and a local variant of Sangiovese – Prugnolo – Vino Nobile offers a richer, headier experience than Chianti to the north. The wines have been made for at least 1,200 years; Antinori joined the party in typically impressive style in 1990. The La Braccesca estate straddles Vino Nobile and the neighboring appellation, Cortona, which is proving Italy’s most successful appellation for Syrah.
Antinori first bought land on the Tenuta Braccesca estate in 1990, situated in southeast Tuscany, between the towns of Montepulciano and Cortona. The former is known for the Sangiovese that ripens into rich Vino Nobile, while the latter is home to Italy’s best Syrah.
