Opulent yet silky, this delicious wine displays juicy
cooked cherries and fresh raspberries with notes of
sarsaparilla through to a peppery and rich finish.
Producer Note
Fox Gordon is a family run winery specialising in contemporary, premium and awardwinning
wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. From a diverse selection of
grape varieties, each bottle is the ultimate fusion of wine and fashion. Made using
the Fox Gordon philosophy of low input and low yield to give maximum flavour, while
preserving the inherent qualities of the fruit and the site; these stylish wines are
modern, bright and vibrant.
Vintage
In the Adelaide Hills the low winter and spring rainfall, meant the vintage started very
dry and in some cases irrigation was required, which is rare for this region. The rains
that arrived in late January were invaluable, resulting in above average yields. The
2016 vintage has been hailed as one of the best all-round vintages of the past
decade, with excellent quality fruit.
Vineyard
The vines are approximately 10 years old and are planted at the top of a hill at an
altitude of 480 metres above sea level. It is a rocky site, which suits this very vigorous
variety as the site has very little top soil, slowing down the vigour.
Winemaking
The grapes were destemmed and the underwent a cold soak for one week.
Fermentation took place in stainless steel and lasted for two weeks. The wine was
then transferred to old French oak barrels for a period of 12 months, adding subtle
oak complexity. The wine saw no new oak and was bottled unfiltered.
Tasting Note
Fresh and vibrant blue fruits are complemented by subtle notes of rosewater. With
opulent flavours of ripe, juicy cherries, dark chocolate and a touch of Dutch cocoa;
and fine supple tannins this is fabulous served slightly chilled.
Serving Suggestion
Delicious served slightly chilled, try with a wild boar ragu or prosciutto pizza. This also
accompanies tomato based foods or the spice and heat of an Indian curry.
