The Hunter savouriness continues on the palate. Lively red fruit characters supported by fine grained tannins from both the fruit and oak. A long finish and seamless structure giving what the late Len Evans called 'line and length'. Easily sits alongside the great fine structured Graveyard's of the past three decades.

Sound fruit and excellent ripeness. Typical mid density colour meaning this is an elegant supple Graveyard Shiraz. The older, large format French oak integrates perfectly with sweetness and fine tannins. The fruit spectrum for Graveyard Shiraz is about red cherries and almost Pinot-like Campari notes. Medium bodied palate but with ripe tannins and a juicy acidity that will keep the wine in good stead for many years.

Excellent mid to deep colour with bright purple tints on the rim. The result of a cooler year but Hunter reds are never really black in colour. Strong lifted fruit aromas of red cherry and sweet earthy. As a young wine the oak (nearly all French) is up front with briar-like bramble characters and vanillin sweetness. This will settle into the wine with some bottle age.

97 points - "The leader of the Brokenwood pack, matured in French oak. Deep crimson-purple; you can see the size of the castle, but the drawbridge is up, and the moat very deep. There is only one thing to do: buy as much as you/your partner can afford, and don't return for at least 5, preferably 10, years. This has the attributes of a great Graveyard, its balance and length unimpeachable. Screwcap 13.5% alc To 2053."

97 points - "Graveyard has long been the Hunter's premier shiraz and deservedly so. This new vintage might not knock the legendary 1986 off its perch but it might go close. Great depth, finely textured. Profound. Leather, black fruits, juniper berries, plums. Cashmere tannins, immaculately balanced, wonderfully complex."
