Matias Riccitelli is the son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli. Having worked at some of the most prestigious wineries in Argentina and several vintages around the world, Matias used his experience, knowledge and passion and set up his own winery in 2009. His vineyards cover 50 hectares located in three selected sites within the premium growing region of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. This is a young and dynamic project in which Matias is seeking to express the full potential of Argentine terroir.
The grapes are handpicked at optimum maturity levels from Matias Riccitelli's three vineyards: Vistalba, where the vineyard is over 60 years old; Perdriel, which has the oldest vines at over 80 years old and El Cepillo, where the vines are 20 years old. The average yield is 35 hectolitres per hectare and a green harvest is performed in January, not only to manage the yields, but also to encourage concentration of flavours in the remaining berries. The grapes were hand harvested in small 20 kilogram cases, in order to keep the integrity of each cluster.
The wine is a blend of Malbec with a third from each of the regions: Vistalba, Perdriel and El Cepillo. A meticulous sorting of the grapes took place in order to select the best quality berries, which were then vinified in small concrete vats, with indigenous yeasts. A cold maceration took place for five days. The temperature was maintained at 28°C during the fermentation, which was followed by 15 day maceration period. The wine was then transferred into French oak barrels of first, second and third use for 16 months.
Concentrated and powerful, this is a very complex yet elegant wine with aromas of wild blackberries, black cherries, liquorice and floral notes. Perfectly balanced with a great structure, rounded palate and an elegant finish.
An ideal match for grilled meats, hard cheeses and simply delicious with chocolate.
